1537 – Robert Aske executed

Robert Aske led the “Pilgimage of Grace,” an uprising of thousands of Catholics to defend their religious houses that were being closed and stripped by King Henry Vlll.  He was executed on this day for his acts of treason against the king.  He chose to be hanged with chains.
